Lapis Lazuli
About lapis lazuli
Lapis Lazuli is a deep blue metamorphic rock flecked with golden pyrite and white calcite — the stone ground into ultramarine pigment for Renaissance paintings. In Vedic practice it is associated with Shani (Saturn) and is worn for clarity of thought, honest speech and inner steadiness. Every piece here is natural, certified and priced per ratti.
Afghan Lapis
The finest lapis has come from the Sar-e-Sang mines of Badakhshan, Afghanistan, for over six thousand years. Look for a deep, even royal blue with fine gold pyrite specks and little white calcite — that combination is what separates fine lapis from the dull, chalky material sold cheaply.
Lapis Lazuli FAQ
Answers to the questions our customers ask us most
How do I spot fake lapis?
Dyed jasper and reconstituted lapis are common. Dyed stones leave colour on an acetone swab; reconstituted pieces look unnaturally uniform. Every stone here carries a laboratory report.
How should I care for it?
Lapis is soft and porous. Keep it away from perfume, chemicals and ultrasonic cleaners, and wipe it with a dry cloth.
