About Rudraksha

Rudraksha is the sacred seed of the Elaeocarpus ganitrus tree, worn as a bead of Lord Shiva. The number of natural lines (mukhi) decides the bead's deity and planet; 5 Mukhi is the general bead that anyone can wear.

How to check an original Rudraksha before you buy

Natural mukhi lines run cleanly from top to bottom; carved or glued lines mean a fake bead.
Look for joined beads (two halves glued together) and artificial holes.
The floating-in-water and copper-coin tests are myths. For costly beads (1, 14 and Ganesh Mukhi) ask for an X-ray or lab report.
