How to Verify a Gemstone Certificate
A gemstone has no hallmark. The lab certificate is the only independent proof of what you are buying, so it is worth two minutes to check it. This page explains what a certificate should show, how to verify it online, and how Tushar Gems handles certification.
What a gemstone certificate should show
- Report number — a unique number you can look up on the laboratory’s website
- Photograph of the actual stone
- Weight in carats, and measurements in millimetres
- Identification — for example “Natural Blue Sapphire”
- Treatment — whether the stone is heated, filled or otherwise treated, or shows no indication of treatment
- Laboratory name and contact details
How to verify a certificate in 4 steps
- Find the report number printed on the certificate.
- Open the issuing laboratory’s official website and use its report search. For IIGJ Research & Laboratories (GJEPC India) reports, use iigjrlc.com.
- Check that the photo, weight, measurements and colour shown online match the stone in your hand.
- Check that the weight on your invoice matches the certificate. If you think in ratti, ask the seller to show both carat and ratti.
If a laboratory has no website or no online report search, or the report number cannot be found, ask the seller for a re-test before you pay.
How Tushar Gems handles certification
- Tushar Gems sells natural gemstones with lab certificates; IIGJ government-lab certified stones are clearly marked.
- The report number is printed in the product title on tushargems.com, so you can check it before you order.
- Treatment noted on the certificate is listed with the product. Untreated and treated or heated stones are kept separate, and we tell you which one you are buying.
- Every loose stone is photographed individually — the stone in the photo is the stone you receive.
- Prices are printed, and Gemwix sealed packs carry an MRP.

Frequently asked questions
Is a treated gemstone fake?
No. A heated sapphire or an oiled emerald is still a natural stone. Treatment must be disclosed, and it usually lowers the price compared with an untreated stone of the same quality.
Does a certificate tell me whether a stone will suit me astrologically?
No. A certificate identifies the stone, its weight and any treatment. It does not make any claim about astrological effects.
What is the difference between carat and ratti?
Laboratories certify weight in carats. Ratti is a traditional Indian unit many astrologers use. Your seller should show both, and they should match the certificate.
Can I verify a Tushar Gems certificate myself?
Yes. Enter the report number from the product title or certificate on the issuing laboratory’s website and compare the details with your stone.
